Fixed Prosthodontics carries the highest single weighting (approximately 20%), making it the most important area to master. This reflects the exam’s strong focus on core restorative principles, tooth preparation, and long-term prosthetic success. Complete dentures (14%) and Aesthetic dentistry (9%) together form the remaining bulk of the exam, highlighting the importance of comprehensive rehabilitation across different treatment modalities. Supporting areas such as Occlusion & TMJ (10–15%), Implant Prosthodontics and Diagnosis & Treatment Planning (10–15%) are heavily integrated into clinical scenarios, while Dental Materials and other specialty topics contribute smaller but essential portions of the exam
What are the core clinical areas that must be mastered?
The exam assesses competence across three broad domains:
- Clinical expertise in prosthodontics- fixed, removable, and implant prosthodontics including tooth preparation, denture design, occlusion, and full-mouth rehabilitation
- Treatment planning and case management- comprehensive evaluation, sequencing of care, and interdisciplinary coordination (endo, perio, ortho, surgery)
- Management of complications and outcome- prosthetic failures, occlusal issues, implant complications, adjustments, and maintenance protocols
- Some limited General & Basic science relevant to prosthodontics practice; e.g. Ethics in patient care, patient safety, medical emergency management.
